Marriage Equality

The ACLU of Colorado proudly fought for decades to bring full marriage equality to Colorado.

We were a founding member, along with One Colorado and Freedom to Marry, of Why Marriage Matters Colorado, a statewide grassroots campaign to win full marriage equality and overturn Colorado’s discriminatory marriage ban.

During the summer of 2014, judges from local, state, district and federal courts in Colorado all unanimously ruled in favor of marriage equality and against Colorado’s marriage ban.

The ban was officially lifted in October 2014, and all loving couples in Colorado now have the freedom to marry.

Update: On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court held that states may not deny the freedom to marry to same-sex couples throughout the country.  Along with our partners in Why Marriage Matters Colorado, we are proud to have contributed to winning full marriage equality in our state last year. Today’s decision guarantees that marriage equality is the law of the land for all loving couples throughout the country.
