Join ACLU of Colorado Speakers Bureau volunteer Dr. Kathleen Hynes for this discussion of the USA Patriot Act, commonly known as the Patriot Act, signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001, shortly after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Dr. Hynes will look back at its passage and at many of the elements civil libertarians oppose: its authorization of indefinite detentions of immigrants; searches of a home or business without the owner’s or the occupant’s permission or knowledge; the expanded use of National Security Letters, which allows the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to search telephone, e-mail, and financial records without a court order, and other provisions.
Don't miss this important civil liberties and civil rights discussion.
