Rights of Young People

The Constitution does not care how old you are. The Supreme Court famously found that students do not "shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate."

The ACLU of Colorado has defended the rights of students across the state. Our cases and advocacy efforts have covered a range of issues, including school administrators confiscating students’ cell phones and searching through text messages, students’ political speech, off-campus speech, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the recognition of a Gay/Straight Alliance club.
