LGBT Rights
The ACLU fights LGBT discrimination and moves public opinion through the courts, legislatures and public education.We have been at the forefront of efforts to secure marriage for same-sex couples and are committed to defending the rights of LGBT parents, not only in custody and visitation arrangements but also by challenging discriminatory laws that restrict the rights of LGBT people to parent., and we work to include gender identity in nondiscrimination laws. We’re also working to make public schools safe and bias-free for LGBT students, defending their free speech in school, and working to help students start gay-straight alliance clubs. We argued a successful suit to defeat Colorado’s discriminatory Amendment 2 all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The ACLU filed suit on behalf of a group of students at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs who challenge the school's refusal to recognize their student club, the Palmer High Gay/Straight Alliance.
