We are happy to announce the public release of Out of Sight, Out of Mind, our new short film on mentally ill prisoners in solitary confinement. The film is based on the true story of a Sam Mandez, who has spent more than 15 consecutive years in solitary confinement and has suffered immense mental illness as a result. We commissioned and produced the film with a local filmmaker, and it includes interviews with Sam, as well as family and friends who knew him and can attest to his mental state before he went to prison and a set of mental health experts who speak to Sam’s case specifically and the problems with solitary confinement generally.
A shortened version of the film can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JH4O8inlQu0
