The ACLU of Colorado filed a lawsuit today on behalf of Danielle SeeWalker, a Húŋkpapȟa Lakȟóta artist and muralist, who was selected as Vail’s Artist in Residence for the Summer of 2024.
The ACLU of Colorado filed a habeas petition on behalf of Dean Lopez who was charged by Pueblo under a unique “contempt of court” municipal ordinance for missing court dates and is now being unlawfully detained on a 575-day sentence in the Pueblo County Jail.
“Today, the Pueblo County District Court ruled that the ordinance put in place by Pueblo City Council to prohibit operation of syringe exchange programs is preempted by state law.
Today the Colorado Court of Appeals rightly concluded that Teller County Sheriff Jason Mikesell cannot hold immigrants in jail based on requests from the federal government’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
