Section 1 of the bill removes from the list of forms of documentation used for establishing identification for purposes of the Uniform Election Code of 1992 (code): • A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows the name and address of the elector; • A valid medicare or medicaid card issued by the United States health care financing administration; • A certified copy of a birth certificate for the elector issued in the United States; or • Certified documentation of naturalization. Section 1 of the bill also allows a valid identification card issued by a nationally recognized tribal government to constitute identification for voting purposes if the identification contains a photograph of the eligible elector. Section 2 of the bill specifies that, in connection with any provision of the code requiring an elector to submit identification as a condition of casting a ballot, state law prohibits the department of revenue from charging certain applicants a fee for a state-issued identification card.
