The ACLU protects individuals’ right to make informed decisions free from government interference about whether and when to become a parent, and to be given access to the full range of reproductive health care.
Through litigation, public education and legislative advocacy, the ACLU of Colorado strives to ensure that everyone in our society has the resources to make responsible decisions about forming intimate relationships and building secure and healthy families. We seek to protect access to sex education, birth control, prenatal care, and the option of abortion, and oppose all efforts to erode those rights. In recent years, Colorado has unfortunately become a prominent battleground for reproductive rights, as religious extremists have attempted to force their beliefs on the rest of the state through the so-called “Personhood” ballot initiatives. The ACLU of Colorado worked tirelessly to defeat these attempts in 2008, 2010, and will do so again in 2014.
