With federal threats to our civil rights and civil liberties on the horizon, it’s more important than ever that we fight to protect Coloradans. In the 2025 legislative session, ACLU of Colorado will build on our previous work done in the 2024 session.
Our Campaign for Smart Justice will continue to ensure that justice-impacted youth get the support they need. We aim to ensure that Colorado no longer arrests or prosecutes elementary age children, and that more middle and high schoolers, who deserve community-based support, are receiving resources instead of more time in jail cells.
Through our Systemic Equality Agenda, we look to enshrine and further expand voting rights and protections into state law. Every voter deserves to have their voice heard. With legislation we plan to support, we won’t have to rely on federal courts to do so.
Our Privacy and Liberty Project will focus on keeping facial recognition technology, one of the most invasive forms of surveillance, out of K-12 schools in Colorado. Students, teachers, and parents should be able to engage with our public schools without fear of being surveilled, misidentified, and harmed.
With much at stake in the coming years, we are committed to making sure that Colorado remains a beacon of liberty for all.
