DENVER — The Department of Justice today issued letters to 23 jurisdictions, including Denver, demanding documents and threatening subpoenas over these localities’ supposed non-compliance with a federal law that addresses information sharing between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.
ACLU of Colorado Legal Director Mark Silverstein issued the following statement:
“Attorney General Jeff Sessions is engaged in a malicious campaign of threats and intimidation to break the will of communities, like Denver, that have decided to limit their entanglement with Trump’s cruel, nativist deportation agenda. In this conflict, Denver is on the right side of common sense, public safety, the Constitution, and all of its residents – immigrant and citizen alike.”

One year ago, thousands of Coloradans marched in a historic display of resistance. At the ACLU of Colorado we carried that spirit throughout the year, fighting on many fronts for civil liberties. We won’t stop now.
